Pineapple soap

Four square bars of soap with yellow and orange circular designs and a red center, resembling pineapple rings with cherries, placed on a black reflective surface against a light background.

I bought this pineapple fragrance formulator a while back and wanted to test it before using it in a blend.  It smells just like pineapple, or pineapple candy, and has stayed very strong in the soap after 6 weeks.

Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits to eat; however I cannot eat more than a couple of pieces when it is raw.  It irritates my throat otherwise, I think it is because pineapple has an enzyme (bromelain) that breaks down protein, in most people this just causes a tingling sensation though.

If it is cooked though, I can eat as much as I want.  And this is what gave me the idea to make these soaps look like an upside down pineapple cake.

Safety Equipment:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Facial Shield (I use either a facial shield or the goggles below)
  • Safety Goggles
  • Respirator  (I use this when mixing the lye, I mix the lye in the window sill, window opened, with a pedestal fan blowing the fumes away, better yet, freeze your distilled water prior) I also try to wear long sleeves, pants and closed shoes.  In my personal experience, most of my near misses (when I feel my skin itching or a slight burning sensation), or when I come contact with the soap batter, have happened when I am wiping down the containers, when I am almost done.

Fragrances

Pineapple formulator5% 0.9 oz
SatsumaAdd 0.2 oz to 4 oz of batter (for testing)

(This fragrance accelerated the trace some with my recipe, 8 weeks later is still very strong.) I absolutely love it though, it smells like pineapple and I wish I could eat the soap. The Satsuma fragrance has remained somewhat strong in the soap, it had an off-fake smell for a while but after 8 weeks it smells like it is supposed to. A sweet citric scent, but not what I was looking for.

Mold

  • Square cavities mold from Bramble Berry
