Making a Parrot Inspired Soap

Two bird-shaped soaps, one green and one gray, sit on branches in round soap molds. Text above reads Pretty Birds Soap. Text below credits Beautiful Soaps by Glenda © 2020.

Birds are fascinating creatures. And I feel nothing but admiration for people who can commit to keeping one as a pet, especially if it is a parrot species, since they can live for so long. (African Grays can live up to 50-60 years or longer in captivity)

However, their lives can be fragile as something like the fumes of a self cleaning oven can kill them.

Jen Spice from Jentle Soaps, a soap making friend owns an African Gray parrot, and this soap was inspired by it. I am not sure about the spelling of her name, but it sounds like Keke. Another youtuber I like also has an African gray, she is a makeup artist/comedian.

Two oval soaps with intricate designs: one features a green bird among purple and orange flowers, the other has a gray animal beside colorful flowers. Text reads Beautiful Soaps by Glenda across the center.

You can choose any fragrance you like, I used a blend that accelerates in cold process soap and also discolors to light brown, so you would need to act fast with it:

0.60 ozNeroli fragrance oil
0.60 oz Vanilla Musk
0.40 ozHoney fragrance
0.40 ozSweet Orange chili pepper

Equipment

Molds

Colorants

  • None, but I used colorful soap scraps for a confetti effect.

Embeds

Additives

2 tsp of sodium lactate to help unmold
