For Valentine’s this year, my husband got me this rose (among other things):

I love it because it looks just like the rose from the Little Prince (he knows how much I like this book). This soap was inspired by it. I made it for the January monthly challenge of the soapmakingforum. The challenge itself was about making a galaxy soap.
It is said that the character of the rose (initially it was “a flower”, in the book) was based on the author’s wife, Consuelo, who interestingly enough, is salvadoran like me. The volcanos in the Little Prince planet are reportedly inspired in the volcanos from El Salvador as well (we do have many there).
This is my second soap inspired in the Little Prince, the first one can be found here. I will have another one (based on the fox) next week.
Recipe Totals
** If you have never made soap before, this is not the recipe to try for the first time. I would suggest this one instead.
| Liquid Required | 4.71 oz | 133.44 g |
| NaOH Weight | 2.14 oz | 60.74 g |
| KOH Weight | 0.18 oz | 4.98 g at 90% Purity |
| Lye Weight | 2.32 oz | 65.73 g |
| Oil Weight | 16 oz | 453.59 g |
| Fragrance Oil Weight | 0.96 oz | 27.22 g |
| Superfat | 5% | |
| Total Batch Weight | 24.23 oz | 687.01 g |
| Lye Concentration | 33% | |
| NaOH / KOH Ratio | 95% / 5% |
Note: I am using a lye blend that includes Koh (Potassium hydroxide), mainly because I bought some for a project, did the project, now I have a lot leftover and want to use it up. Also because I have read that it helps increase bubbles, and my husband loves a bubbly soap. You can enter the ingredients in a lye calculator and modify the recipe, to get the correct amount for just Naoh.
