Attempting the Cosmic Swirl Soap technique

This soap brings some bittersweet memories for me, it was the last soap that my husband made with me during his soap making streak; he has since returned to a hobby he finds more fascinating: defeating gravity and making foam planes fly. (Rc wings). Here is a short video of how that is like.

He had seen this video from Tree Marie worksoaps, and that was the inspiration for this soap. Instead of using a slab mold, we used a loaf mold and only filled it halfway. This had the disadvantage of giving us a narrow work area, but a polymer clay rounded half pipe helped at the beginning. While I do not think we were as successful as the inspiration soap, I was happy with how it turned out and with the fragrance. I will probably buy it again once it is all used up.

For colors, he wanted to imitate the look of the rainbow reflected in oil spilled on the street. Then we found this instagram picture in our pastor’s feed and it seemed perfect:

Mold:

5 lb loaf liner (I made a very rustic mold to go with it)

Colorants:

1/2 tsp of Midnight blue Mica from Nurture Soap + 1/4 tsp ultramarine blue pigment dispersed in light colored olive oil prior

1/2 tsp Bronze Brown Mica from Ns dispersed in oils

1/2 tsp Lily pad green mica from WSP dispersed in oils

1 tsp Orange Vibrance Mica mixed with a little bit of Fluorescent Neon Deep orange

1/2 tsp Trial by Fire Mica (Red) dispersed in light colored oil

Fragrance:

2 oz Bergamot and Honey fragrance oil
