Sunflower Soap

Last Christmas, a sweet lady ordered six of the Van Gogh sunflower soaps. Since I only had two left, I decided to make some more, and instead of doing the painting, I explained I would make them all have sunflowers.

You would think using sunflower oil in this recipe would have been ideal, however, with its 6 month shelf life, I decided not to include it, to avoid DOS (Dreaded Orange Spots). I used a similar fragrance blend to the one I had used for the original soap, but had to substitute one of the fragrance notes, and this involved some added acceleration.

Overall I was happy to practice piping again, despite the initial acceleration challenge. The fragrance blend was worth it, but I wish I could have used more water.

I would increase the water content next time, if I had more time for curing

Colorants:

Titanium dioxide (aff link)

Azure Blue Mica

Yellow lake from TKB trading

Green Oxide (Aff link)

Note: In the recipe link above and in the video, I also included ultramarine blue. This is because I had an additional piping project for another soap (A peacock piping soap). You can ignore that.
