Gaudi’s Chameleon Soap

I had the opportunity to visit Barcelona when I was young-er. My sister worked for an airline, and we were able to fly with her stand by passes. The trip back was quite an adventure, but that might be a story for another day.

It was probably 1998 or 1999. My camera was a point and shoot Kodak 35 mm. The kind that you had to “load” properly in the camera. Well, when we visited park Güell, at some point while being there, I did not load the film properly and lost most of the pictures taken there. I found the one we took when we just got there though.

I discovered that some soap dough (malleable soap) that I had made, had hardened because I had not wrapped it properly to protect it from air exposure. It had essentially begun to cure, and I began to wonder if adding water would soften it to the point I could use somehow. Mixing the chopped soap pieces reminded me of the mosaic walls at park Güell, which in turned reminded me of the chameleon at the entrance, and that was how the chameleons embeds were born. I decided to use the chopped soap dough in the soap as well, to complete the effect. I chose peppermint fragrance oil to help bring together all the other soap pieces in a neutral and fresh way.

This soap is available now at the store if you want to grab a bar while available. However, if you want to try your hand at making it, here is a link to the recipe. And the video of the making below:
