This is probably one of the easiest fruits to make with soap dough. Especially if you go with the simplest version. (I made several versions!) One of the reasons why I prefer to hand make my embeds vs getting a mold/mould, is because 1. I have a problem with hoarding tendencies!! 2. since I am not attending craft fairs to sell or markets, I do not have a need to mass produce the same soaps yet. 3. It is fun to me to shape things with my hands!
I think the tricky part is getting the color right. This happened quite accidentally when I was making soap dough with natural colorants. I used indigo powder and I was very happy with the colors achieved.
The first soap blueberries I made were done with a star stamp, for the second set I used the stamp and a carving tool. I thought this second set were the best looking blueberries, but it required more time than I wanted to give them. So, later I came up with abbreviated versions of them, and with different tools.
Making/Coloring the soap dough
Recipe
I used this recipe. You will find the tips on making the recipe in that page.
Colorant:
0.5 teaspoons of indigo powder per every 3 – 4 oz of soap batter
(I used 3.25 oz of soap batter, however, having different shades should give you a more realistic look). I had dispersed the indigo in oil, which made a paste out of it. I have read in Jo Hausler’s book that indigo is better dispersed in water.
