I have wanted to make a Titanic inspired soap for a while, but at the same time, I hesitated because of the great loss of life this ship represents. I have attended a couple of Titanic exhibits and in one of them, there was a dark room with a huge screen, and the names of the victims were on the wall. It was a sobering and sad moment for me.
So, I decided to go with the fictitious romantic story made famous by the movie, and the necklace that the elderly lady throws in the ocean at the end of it (do not tell me I just ruined the movie for you, it has been out since 1997!)
I made the hearts with melt and pour, which curiously, I did not melt! I just cut it and dried painted it with mica on the back. The smaller rhinestone looking pieces were melted and I used a mold for that.

As far as the soap goes, I experimented with a new recipe using beef tallow, shea butter, coconut oil, walnut and olive oil. I have been trying to reduce the number of oils I use, to keep it simple and easy to measure, but I need to use up the walnut oil (an impulse buy at the grocery store). Since it is about 55% of hard oils, I thought it would harden fast, so I did not use salt or sodium lactate. I did not insulate either, I am regretting both decisions since I a have been waiting 36 hours now to remove from the mold and they are not ready yet, maybe tonight!
I did not do a water discount either, as I was actually wanting glycerin rivers (I figured the translucent effect would be good in an ocean related theme), but I got lot of soda ash. One more thing, I did not add enough charcoal powder either, so my black is now looking like dark gray.
